The Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology program teaches the theories and principles of the operation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) equipment. A variety of related laboratory projects allow students to put into practice the knowledge and skills gained, preparing them for skilled service technician positions.
Job opportunities for HVACR technicians are expected to be excellent, particularly for those who have completed training at an accredited technical school or through an apprenticeship. Candidates familiar with computer tablets and electronics will have the best job opportunities as employers continue to have difficulty finding qualified technicians to install, maintain, and repair complex new systems.
Students will have an opportunity to take nationally recognized exams, including EPA Section 608 Certification, as well as preparatory classes for the Alabama State Board of Heating and Air Conditioning contractor’s exam.
Awards Offered: A.A.S., Certficiate, and Short-term Certifciate
Students who choose to pursue the A.A.S.degree plan, may earn a certifciate and short-term certificate while working toward the A.A.S.
Students may enroll at the beginning of any semester.
