NACC Workforce Development & Skills Training Division provides educational opportunities for all adults, regardless of prior educational attainment. Programs in the Skills Training Division do not carry college credit, but often help students to obtain industry certification. The college offers a variety of customized training and community workshops intended to provide opportunities to learn various skills. The college periodically offers community education, open-enrollment courses related to recreational activities or other avocational training. Numerous online options are available 24/7. This introductory course combines theory and hands-on activities. Participants will be able to install, terminate, and test multimode/ single mode fiber optic networks effectively and efficiently. Training prepares participants to take the CFOT test that is sanctioned by the FOA (Fiber Optics Association). Exam is provided at completion of class.

This 2-day program offers advanced training to technicians involved with the testing and maintenance of fiber optic networks. The program explains the variety of testing standards, equipment and technological approaches used in fiber network testing and splicing, and how to choose among them. Training includes how to effectively identify fiber network defects and provide Quality Assurance procedures to minimize or eliminate future network outages. Participants are prepared to take the Advanced Fiber Optics Certification Exam, provided the final day of class. CFOS/S training includes a complete presentation explaining the importance of high-performance splicing and details the points necessary to achieve these splices. The depth of this presentation is much greater than most textbooks and provides background information about splicing. An overview of OTDR functions and trace understanding is also provided during this presentation. 85% hands-on classroom activities will provide training in both fusion and mechanical splicing of either single or multimode fiber optic cables. Inside or outside plant fiber optic cable types will be utilized at instructor's discretion during these hands-on sessions along with fiber optics enclosures and splice trays. Maintenance Related Assessments
Northeast Alabama Community College, in partnership with Ramsay Corporation, has the following assessments available. These are proctored online assessments that may be taken at the college. PLC Test – Form A4 - This 60-item, multiple choice test assesses knowledge of programmable logic controllers. It is written at the journey-level in the English language.
Target Audience: Journeyman maintenance workers.
Multi-Craft Aptitude Test – Form A7 This 40-item, multiple choice test assesses mechanical and electrical aptitude for those who might be interested in moving into a maintenance role. There is a time limit of 24 minutes to complete this assessment.
Target Audience: Individuals who might wish to move into a maintenance role.
Multi-Craft Entry Test – Form A This 60-item, multiple choice test assesses electrical and mechanical knowledge at the trainee level.
Target Audience: Entry-level maintenance employee.
Combined Basic Skills – Form A4 This 53-item, multiple choice test assesses reading, arithmetic, inspection and measurement, and process monitoring and problem-solving skills of entry level employees.
Target Audience: Entry-level employees.
Maintest – Form A This 153-item, multiple choice test assesses the knowledge of maintenance technicians in a variety of topics, including hydraulics and pneumatics, welding, power transmission, lubrication, pumps and piping, rigging, mechanical maintenance, shop machines and tools, and equipment, combustion, motors, digital electronics, schematics and print reading, control circuits, power supplies, AC/DC theory, power distribution, test instruments, computers and PLCs, and electrical maintenance. Please allow 150 minutes to take this assessment.
Target Audience: Helps to determine strengths and weaknesses in multi-skilled maintenance technicians. Often used as a pre-test before focused training.
