The vocal music department at NACC has a variety of performing ensembles and classes for everyone. Whether you are an experienced performer or just looking to find your voice, there is a place for you!
Full tuition scholarships are available by audition. Interested singers should contact their school counselor or the scholarship department at NACC for more information. Auditions are held every spring.
Open to ALL NACC students, regardless of major or experience. The Chorus presents an on-campus concert each semester, and all also performs at various school and community functions.
Encore is an audition only chamber group that focuses on contemporary and jazz choral literature.
The Vocal Music Department also offers MUP (Individual Performance Instruction) and MUL (Class Performance Instruction) in voice.
Students interested in auditioning for a Chorus Scholarship should be prepared to do the following:
Perform a memorized solo- This should be a piece that shows your abilities at their best. CD or instrumental accompaniments are encouraged. If you need an accompanist, you must contact Mrs. Markham to arrange for one.
Match pitch patterns – Several brief pitch patterns (i.e., short series of notes) will be played on the piano. You will be asked to listen to and immediately “echo” each pattern by singing what you hear. This will be used to measure your ability to hear pitches and accurately match them with your voice.
Sight-sing several short melodies – For each melody, a key orientation and starting pitch will be given. You will then be asked to sing the melody (unaccompanied) by reading the notated music. You may use a sight-singing method (e.g., solfege or numbers) but it is not required. This will be used to assess your music literacy level.
