Northeast Alabama Community College will step into a new chapter of its athletic history as the men’s and women’s Track and Field programs prepare for their inaugural season. What began as an idea sketched out in meetings and conversations has grown into a full roster of athletes, a coaching staff with a vision, and a sense of anticipation that can be felt across campus.
This past year, NACC President Dr. Campbell approved the addition of men’s and women’s Track and Field. “We at Northeast are pleased to offer another intercollegiate sport for competition. We look forward to seeing our athletes compete in Track and Field.”
The men’s and women’s teams are a mix of local talent and athletes who chose Northeast Alabama for the chance to help build something new. Some arrive with years of experience, others with raw potential, but all share the same responsibility: to define what it means to wear this uniform. Coaches have emphasized fundamentals, discipline, and team culture, knowing that the foundation laid this season will influence the program for years to come.
Head Coach John Moore will lead the program into its inaugural season. “After a rewarding cross-country season, full of hard work, I am thrilled to help launch the new Track and Field program at Northeast Alabama Community College,” said Moore. “This is an exciting time for the college, and I am eager to work with our student athletes to build a program that emphasizes development, opportunity, and representing NACC with pride.”
There is also a sense of pride within the broader community. For a college rooted in opportunity and access, the addition of track and field reflects growth and ambition. Families, classmates, and supporters are preparing to cheer not just for wins, but for milestones—the first race, the first podium finish, the first school record etched into history.
As opening meets approach, nerves mix with excitement. Athletes lace up their spikes knowing that when the starting gun fires, they will be doing something no one at NACC has done before. This inaugural season is not just about times and distances. It is about identity, perseverance, and the beginning of a tradition that will carry forward long after the first lap is run.
The two teams will open up on Sunday, January 18th at the Birmingham CrossPlex for the KMS indoor event. The rest of the schedule will follow:
