A trio of Northeast Alabama Community College students, who have been together as friends since the age of five, have recently graduated from NACC with associate degrees. The educational journey for Jacob Gray, Hayden Gray, and Jason Wilborn, however, doesn’t end there. They have successfully continued on to Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, and have enrolled in the Doctor of Pharmacy program together.
"The college is very pleased to have helped with this journey," stated Dr. David Campbell, President of Northeast. "We do have a very strong academic transfer program and have an articulation agreement with colleges and universities that assures that our designated courses transfer. As we say, a student can start here at Northeast and go anywhere as far as future careers in any field are concerned."
Jacob, Hayden and Jason began together in school at Macedonia Elementary School in Section, Alabama during the year 2001. After nine years of both elementary and middle school education, they graduated eighth grade from Macedonia Middle School in 2011. From there they began their high school education at Section High School. In their early years of high school, they each grew interested in a career as a pharmacist. As graduation approached during their senior year of high school, in 2015, it became clear that pharmacy was the pathway that they wanted to pursue as they began their college career. In August of 2015, only a few short months after graduation, they began their next step in life at Northeast Alabama Community College. While at NACC, they each had full intentions of pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy at the same institution, preferably McWhorter School of Pharmacy at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. They knew, although, that the chances for all three of them to end up at the same pharmacy school were slim. During their last semester at NACC they each completed their interview process, and all three of them were accepted to their top choice pharmacy school. After the short two years of prerequisites at NACC, they each obtained an Associate in Science Degree.
The trio are currently in their third week of classes at McWhorter School of Pharmacy at Samford University. “We feel truly blessed to have made it to this point in our lives, and to have been given the opportunity to take part in this journey alongside each other since kindergarten,” said Jacob, Hayden and Jason. “We would like to thank all of the wonderful professors that we had during our time at NACC who helped us progress to this point in our journey. We would like to give a special thank you to our advisor at Northeast, Mr. Rodney Land. Without his help and guidance, we would not be where we are today!”
