Scale Back Alabama 2016 – Registration Now Open! - Northeast Alabama Community College Is Public Site
January 13, 2016
This week, the 2016 Scale Back Alabama program began signing up participants. The free, statewide weight-loss program actually kicked off last Friday by breaking the Guinness World Record for the most people on one scale. Organizers are hopeful the excitement generated from the event will result in an increase in participation. Northeast Alabama Community College is excited about this year’s program and the opportunity to serve our community as a Public Site.
To enroll in the competition, individuals 18 years of age and older register at www.scalebackalabama.com, print a copy of their registration and then visit a local weigh-in site during the week of January 25 – 31. Registration will be available on-site as well for those who may not have computer access. The contest lasts 10 weeks, and participants will receive a free phone app to help track their exercise and eating pattern, weekly health tips and the chance to be entered into a drawing for cash prizes.
Weigh-in will be Wednesday, January 27 from 2:00-6:00 pm in the Business Education Building Room 106. Register your team of two on line and bring your registration form to weigh-in on the 27 or register at weigh-in. For more information, contact the Northeast Site Coordinator Judith Lea at 256-638-4418 or 256-228-6001, ext. 2309, or by email at email@example.com.
The world record attempt was held to celebrate the competition’s 10-year anniversary and the 1.2 million pounds lost collectively since the contest began. Officials noted the previous world record was held by a British company that boasted 130 people on one scale. The Scale Back Alabama event resulted in 157 people on one scale, a new world record and an opportunity to make the statewide competition better known.
