NACC Offers Pathways to Careers in Emergency Medical Services

Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC) is proud to offer an exceptional Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program, providing students with several degree and certificate options to enter or advance in this essential field. As demand for skilled emergency responders continues to rise, NACC’s program equips students with the hands-on training, knowledge, and certifications necessary to meet the region’s healthcare needs.

The EMS program at NACC offers a range of educational paths to accommodate diverse career goals:

  • Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Emergency Medical Services with concentrations in:
    • Management: Prepares students for leadership roles within EMS.
    • Paramedic: Equips students with advanced life-saving skills needed to work as paramedics in emergency settings.
    • Rescue Technology: Trains students in specialized rescue operations, ideal for situations that require complex extrication skills.
  • Certificates and Short-Term Certificates:
    • Advanced EMT (AEMT): Provides intermediate-level training for those pursuing EMT certification and experience.
    • Emergency Medical Services – Rescue Technology Certificate: A focus on rescue-specific skills, crucial in situations that require extrication expertise.
    • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT): A foundational certificate for those starting a career in EMS.
    • Paramedic Certificate: For those seeking paramedic credentials with a shorter, certificate-based pathway.

NACC is committed to supporting Alabama's healthcare workforce and training the next generation of emergency responders. “As the need and demand for EMT/Paramedics has risen, so has the pay,” stated Mrs. Kristi Gant, the Director of the college’s EMT/Paramedic Program.  “Starting EMT/Paramedics make very similar to what healthcare workers in other fields make, including nurses.”
