Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC) is proud to announce the hiring of veteran coach John Moore as the new head coach of the Mustangs cross country program.

Coach Moore brings a wealth of experience and a deep-rooted passion for the sport to NACC. He retired from public education in 2022 after a distinguished career as head cross country and track coach at White Plains High School in Calhoun County, Alabama.

“We are excited about adding Coach Moore to our staff,” stated NACC President Dr. David Campbell. “He brings much to offer our student-athletes and the college, and we welcome him to Northeast.”

“We are extremely excited to be adding Coach John Moore to our NACC Athletics family,” said NACC Athletic Director Jimmy Kolaitis. “We were searching for someone who shares the values of our Northeast athletic department, and we absolutely believe Coach Moore fits that role. He will help our young athletes develop as people, students, and competitors. We are competing for championships at NACC, and we believe he can help us achieve that.”

During his tenure, Moore led both the boys’ and girls’ teams to five county championships, seven sectional titles, and two Class 4A Alabama state runner-up finishes. Under his leadership, four individual athletes were crowned state champions, with three others finishing as state runners-up. More than a dozen of his athletes continued their running careers at the collegiate level on athletic scholarships.

“After stepping away from coaching at the high school level, I never lost my love for the sport,” said Moore. “When I learned of the opportunity at Northeast, I felt the Lord might be leading me back to what I’ve always loved—helping young athletes grow and succeed.”

Beyond coaching, Moore has also contributed to the sport’s infrastructure by designing and constructing cross country courses throughout Calhoun County—projects that continue to benefit local schools and runners to this day.

Moore says he is looking forward to coaching at NACC for what he hopes will be many successful years. “I’m honored to be part of the Northeast Alabama community and look forward to many great seasons ahead.”
