Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC) has teamed up with Human Resources of DeKalb and Jackson Counties to provide Christmas gifts and clothes for seventeen children in the surrounding area.
Coordinated by the NACC Student Government Association, 10 organizations joined to give back to the community and make this Christmas a brighter season for each of these families. In addition to the presents bought for these families, a canned food drive yielded over a thousand food items to be given to the Flat Rock Community Center.
Joan Reeves, Director of Student Activities, commented on the event saying, “Christmas is that time of year when we stop and think of all of our blessings and want to share with others. I am so proud to be a part of the NACC family, where the students, faculty, and staff give so generously of their time and money to ensure that others have a special Christmas. The success of this event is due to the hard work of these people, and this Christmas will be a much happier one for many families in our service area because of them.”
The project was coordinated by a committee appointed by the Student Government Association (SGA) and was chaired by SGA President, Will Keller. Organizations at NACC who participated in this effort were American Criminal Justice Association (Sponsor, Stephen Whited), Mu Alpha Theta (Sponsors, Adam Niblett, Milah Breland, John Camp, and Thomas Frost), National Student Nurses’ Association (Sponsors Christine Rains and Magan Edwards), Phi Theta Kappa (Sponsors, Olivia Dodd and Billy Day), Presidential Hosts (Sponsor, Andrea Wheeler), Rotaract Club (Sponsor Keith McBride), Sigma Kappa Delta (Sponsors, Jeff Hawes, Jody Ragsdale, and Joan Reeves), Campus Church (Sponsor, Bryon Miller), Rural Health Club (Sponsors, Kevin Holt, Dr. Scott Bryum, Rodney Land, and Misty Chapman), and SGA (Sponsor, Joan Reeves). Without the donations from these organizations, the Student Government would not have been able to make this such a special Christmas for so many people.
