Adam Niblett, Instructor of Mathematics at Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC), was chosen as the Dr. Charles M. Pendley Founders Chair Most Outstanding Faculty Member for 2016-2017. The announcement was made recently by the Founders Chair Committee at a college luncheon.
Dr. David Campbell, President of NACC, welcomed guests to the luncheon honoring Niblett. He said, “Welcome everyone to the 2016-17 Founders Chair Award for the Most Outstanding Faculty Member at Northeast Alabama Community College. As I have said many times before instruction and our faculty are the heart of Northeast. Instruction is our mission--it’s what we are all about. We are so fortunate to have such an outstanding faculty here at Northeast that accomplish that mission for the college. We like to recognize one each year for their work and there’s a committee that’s been doing this for a number of years. The committee consists of Lora Mae Davis (chair), Joyce Kennamer, Pat Freeman, and Kathy Cook. They have been presenting this award for 32 years. They always make an excellent selection. This award started out being sponsored by the Secretarial Association. In time, the NACC Foundation has taken it over and provides the $500 stipend. We appreciate that and thank Heather Rice, NACC Development Director, and the Foundation for supporting this award. I will let Lora Mae take over and make the announcement for this year.”
Lora Mae Davis, Chair of the Founders Chair Committee, said, “This is a special occasion, to announce this year’s recipient of the Founders’ Chair Award. We enjoyed the delicious lunch and it’s good to see many former recipients of this award in attendance. Thank you for your continuing dedication and contributions to the students and NACC.
“An outstanding member for the Dr. Charles M. Pendley Founders Chair award is chosen each year. The selection is determined from nominations made by the students and faculty members. This award is presented to a faculty member who demonstrates exemplary qualities such as preparation, organization, planning, loyalty, community service, effectiveness in dealing with students and working harmoniously with others. Today’s recipient has met all requirements and is deserving of this honor. The award comes with a cash stipend and the recipient is to be honored at graduation. Their name will be placed on a plaque to be displayed at the College.”
Davis added, “Our thanks to Dr. Campbell, his assistant Brenda Stringer, Dr. Joe Burke, and his assistant Angie Stewart for supporting this program. A special thanks to SGA President, Sam Hughes, for his help. We wish you much success. Thanks to the Director of Promotions and Marketing, Debra Barrentine, for keeping the public informed of college activities, achievements and for the great job you do in promoting this college.”
Davis concluded, “This year’s recipient has given eight years of service to Northeast as a Math Instructor and it is our pleasure to name Adam Niblett as the Outstanding Faculty Member for 2016-2017.”
Niblett has been at Northeast since 2009. He has a B.A. degree from Cumberland University and a M.S. degree from Middle Tennessee State University. Niblett said, “I am very honored to receive this award. I am extremely grateful to be employed at an outstanding institution that has a noble mission and such a positive influence on this area. Thank you to the Founders Chair Committee, administration, staff, my coworkers, and my students.”
Campbell expressed congratulations to Niblett. “We are very proud of him.” He then acknowledged some of the past winners of the Founders Chair who were present. They included himself (first recipient of the award), Joan Tucker, Joan Reeves, Greg Millican, Mark Webb, Kevin Holt, Brad Fricks, and Brent Satterfield. “We are very proud to have you all here today. There would be 32 in all.” He also acknowledged the Presidential Hosts who represent the college at all sorts of events. Present today were Ashley Aguilar, Colby Mincey, Olivia Thurman, Kelsi Wetzel, and Chelsea Dunn. “Andrea Okwu is the sponsor of the Presidential Hosts and does a great job,” he added. “Chasley Bellomy our event planner did all of the decorations and planning for today’s event. Good job with that, Chasley. LuAnne Hastings is our chef for today. When she prepares lunch for us I know it will always be good.” The invocation was given by Dr. Joe Burke, Vice President/Dean of Instruction.
