Northeast Alabama Community College will host a community-wide Veterans Day program and reception on Thursday, November 6, at 10:00 a.m. in the Tom Bevill Lyceum. Refreshments will follow the program, and the college extends an invitation to anyone who wishes to attend. We especially want to welcome all local veterans and the family members of veterans to this program.
We are honored to announce this year’s guest speaker as Major General Bill Nance. Nance currently serves as Chairman of the Jackson County Commission. Major General Nance is a graduate of University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in Business Administration and has a master’s degree from Florida Institute of Technology. He is a member of the Northeast Alabama Community College Advisory Board, and a member of the Scottsboro Lion’s Club.
Bill Nance entered the Army in 1968 as a Private and retired after more than thirty-four years as a Major General. Bill’s Army career included assignments as Platoon Leader, Company Commander, Professor of Acquisition Management at the Defense Systems Management College, Program Executive Officer for Army Tactical Missile Systems, Deputy Commanding General Army Space and Missile Defense Command, Program Director and Program Executive Officer the National Missile Defense Program and Program Executive Officer Ballistic Missile Defense Systems. In 2002, Bill joined Cypress International as Executive Vice President and retired in 2013 as President and Chief Operations Officer.
In May 2021, Governor Ivey appointed Bill as Chairman of the Jackson County Commission to fill an unexpired term, and in November 2022, Bill was elected to serve a four term as Chairman of the County Commission. He and his wife Jonnie live in Jackson County, Alabama and attend the First Baptist Church in Scottsboro, Alabama. They are the proud parents of four children – Sherry, Stacy, Kristie and Eric and proud grandparents of ten grandchildren.
NACC is recognized as a Military Friendly School and has been awarded Silver status. The Northeast Student Veteran Association (NSVA) is an organization on campus that acts as an advocate for student Veteran related issues. The NSVA will host a bake sale on November 3 and 4 and a silent auction on November 4 and 5 to benefit disabled veterans.
