"The NACC Student Government Association (SGA) is collecting donations for those who are the victims of Hurricane Helene," stated  faculty sponsor Mrs. Joan Reeves. Boxes have been placed around campus for this collection. SGA is working with the Section Fire Department to collect and deliver these items. According to the Section Fire Department, the following items are needed:

  • Flashlights, batteries, work gloves, trash bags
  • Personal hygiene items
  • Socks, blankets
  • Baby formula and food
  • Diapers and wipes
  • Dog and cat food
  • Bug spray and sunscreen
  • First aid supplies
  • Gas cans, charcoal, small propane tanks

"We thank SGA and Mrs. Reeves for their leadership in this," stated NACC President Dr. David Campbell.  "Hurricane Helene and subsequent flooding severely damaged the Appalachian area of North Carolina and Tennessee and has left many people homeless with more than two hundred people thus far reported killed by the storm. We in our area are a part of Appalachia and in fact Northeast belongs to the organization Community Colleges of Appalachia, so we have much in common with the victims there.  The storm at one time was headed our way, but veered to the east. Thanks to the Northeast family for responding to this need."
