Northeast Alabama Community College held its first ever Sand Mountain Soiree on Saturday, February 27 at 11 a.m. in the Tom Bevill Lyceum and the event was a sellout. The crowd was welcomed by NACC President Dr. David Campbell. NACC Encore! performed “Cowboy Take Me Away” while guests were being served a brunch plate of chicken and waffles, a banana walnut muffin, an orange and beet salad and a sun dried tomato and goat cheese quiche by the Presidential Hosts, led by NACC staff member Andrea Okwu. Chasley Bellomy, event planner, thanked all who helped her with the execution of the details for the event. “It was a campus effort,” she said. “Events like this take all of us. I am so grateful for each and every person who has helped me, and we are all so grateful for the opportunity to have the community on campus with us today. There are two ladies who have been working with me all week, giving their talents to this event as they do to the college each and every day and that is Julise Clements and Brenda Stringer.” Bellomy also thanked President Campbell for his belief in her for the idea of the Sand Mountain Soiree, explaining the day would have never been possible without him. Following brunch, guests were entertained by James Farmer’s stories of growing up in a southern family, who valued the traditions and ways of life in small town Georgia. Farmer demonstrated his special touch on an arrangement of magnolia, antique hydrangeas, free spirit roses and quince. Following the demonstrational speech, Farmer held a book signing of his seven Wall Street Journal’s bestselling books. He spoke with each guest, comparing stories of the south and sharing southern hospitality. The Sand Mountain Soiree will be an annual event for the college, so please look forward to what NACC has in store for the community next spring.
