Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC) recently hosted a Transfer Nursing Fair in the lobby of the Health Education Building. The event was well attended by current RN students and potential RN to BSN transfer students. The goal of the event was to provide students with an opportunity to gather information on several BSN programs from our area. A total of eight schools were present. Together they represented four different states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. These schools were highly interested in recruiting our nursing students to continue their education at their institutions after graduating from NACC.
Bryon Miller, NACC Career and Transfer Advisor, worked closely with Jane Hopson, NACC Director of Nursing, and Janet Gardner, NACC Instructor of Nursing, to plan this event. Miller said of the event, “I think it really goes to show that we have some of the best nursing students in the area. We had a school nearly 350 miles away come here to recruit. That impressed me.” The schools that were on campus recruiting included: Columbus State University, Jacksonville State University, Troy University, the University of Alabama in Birmingham, the University of Alabama in Huntsville, the University of North Alabama, the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, and the University of West Florida.
RN to BSN programs are typically offered in an online format and can usually be completed within a year if all the prerequisites have been met. Nurses with their BSN often have more opportunities to advance in the workplace and have a higher earning potential. NACC nursing graduates are excellent candidates for these programs and are obviously highly sought after. Students interested in entering an RN to BSN program should make an appointment to see the Nursing staff at NACC to make sure they have completed the necessary coursework to be eligible for these programs.
If you missed the fair this year, be on the lookout next year! If you are a recent graduate and want information on obtaining your BSN now, please contact Bryon Miller at 256-638-4418 or 256-228-6001, ext. 2360 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
