NACC to offer new Music Technology Short Term Certificate this Fall

Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC) is excited to announce a new Short-Term Certificate in Music Technology, designed to equip students with the essential skills and experience for careers in the growing fields of music production, live entertainment, and audio engineering.

The program is structured to be completed in just two semesters (Fall and Spring), making it an ideal option for students looking to quickly launch a career in the music and entertainment industries.

"This is a great start to planning your career in music production, recording, mixing, mastering, music business, and live entertainment," said Stacy Morris, NACC Instructor of Music Technology. "We are so excited to get this program going! Students will get hands-on experience learning this exciting field, and we hope to grow the program into a full certificate and eventually a two-year A.A.S. degree."

Courses in the program include:

  • MUS 103 – Survey of Popular Music: Take a musical journey through genres from ragtime to rock and jazz to world music.
  • MUS 110 – Basic Musicianship: Build your foundation in music theory and skills.
  • MUS 116 – Computer Applications in Music: Dive into studio tech, MIDI, notation software, and more.
  • MUS 290 – Introduction to Commercial Music: Explore the business side of music—from publishing to contracts and unions.
  • MUS 293 – Recording Techniques: Learn to produce, engineer, and remix with professional-grade gear.
  • MIC 153 – Audio Engineering Fundamentals: Develop a solid understanding of sound engineering principles.
  • MIC 248 – Live Production Fundamentals: Get hands-on with live sound, lighting, and video projection.

Graduates will be prepared for entry-level work in a variety of fields, including:
Music Engineer/Producer, Live Sound Engineer, Radio/TV Technician, Church and Corporate A/V Technician, and many more.
