Northeast Alabama Community College registration for skill specific training as an EKG Technician, Home Health/ Hospice Aide, or Pharmacy Technician is now open. Courses are scheduled to begin the week of January 9, 2017. In only 12 weeks you can begin a new career in the constant growing healthcare industry.
The EKG Technician course includes detailed practice and related information on anatomy and physiology of the heart, electrocardiography, and stress testing. EKG Technician studies include medical terminology, medial disease processes, medical ethics, and the legal aspects of patient contact within the same 12 weeks. Classes are scheduled for Tuesday evenings beginning, January 10, 2017.
Home health/ hospice aid students are taught in a classroom setting with 40 hours of instruction and 20 hours of clinical, hands-on experience. The classroom curriculum is based on lecture and interactive DVDs in which you gain a real-world insight for your future career. The Alabama Nurse Aide Registry License is required prior to training. There are prospectively 80-100 average job openings for Personal Care Aides and Home Health Aides according to the Alabama Department of Labor, Alabama’s Hot 40 Demand Occupations. Classes are Mondays only beginning January 9, 2017.
Pharmacy Technician participants receive 12 weeks of training to include the practical skills preferred by employers. Successful completers are prepared for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. “Industries with the highest published employment and wages for this occupation are health and personal care stores, general medical and surgical hospitals, grocery stores…department stores,” according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2016-17 Edition. The Alabama Labor Market employment and wage estimates from August, 2016 estimates 1.5 pharmacy technicians necessary for every pharmacist. Classes are Thursday evenings beginning January 12, 2017.
