Northeast Alabama Community College President Dr. David Campbell delivered the following message to Northeast faculty, staff, and students after receiving an excellent report from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Reaffirmation of Accreditation On-Site Committee Visit this week:
"The SACSCOC Reaffirmation of Accreditation On-Site Committee held its Exit Report with Northeast Alabama Community College personnel on Thursday, October 10, 2024, and the college received an excellent report. In fact, the Committee gave no recommendations to the college on essential standards, policy, and infrastructure or regarding the college's proposed Quality Enhancement Plan on improving online learning and instruction. (Recommendations or directives that visiting committees decree must be addressed and corrected with an acceptable follow-up plan.) This is the first time in the 60-year history of the college that no recommendations were received.
The Committee noted that employees demonstrate a high level of professionalism at the college and that a culture of constant efforts to improve exists. The chair of the committee noted that she has never seen a college as devoted to its community as Northeast. She commented also that those involved with dual enrollment at the high schools give total service to students and high school personnel. She stated that Northeast personnel showed great hospitality to the Committee members on their visit, and that Northeast students were very friendly and polite and proud to be Northeast students. The Committee in particular was very complimentary of our Presidential Hosts. The Visiting Committee members also stated that college personnel had provided them with all the information they requested to conduct their review of all issues pertaining to the college.
The Committee was comprised of personnel of community colleges from seven Southern states, and a SACSOC Vice President coordinated the effort. The Visiting Committee, as was its role, did offer suggestions for improving our QEP, which is Providing Accessibility, Technology, and Help for Online Learning. (Suggestions are ideas that the college may implement for improvement or not.) Northeast personnel thanked the Committee for the suggestions and stated that they will consider and evaluate each suggestion. The Visiting Committee agreed that Northeast's proposed QEP subject is very relevant and important and has the potential to be very beneficial to Northeast students. The next step is for Northeast personnel to make adjustments and improvements on the QEP based on the suggestions.
The Visiting Committee went to off-campus dual enrollment sites, thoroughly evaluated each standard, and extensively discussed and analyzed the proposed QEP. The Committee began work on its review of the assigned college several months before the visit, and it also conducted intensive online meetings prior to the meetings on campus. An Off-Site SACSCOC Committee also reviewed Northeast’s compliance report and standards in Atlanta during the spring. Northeast’s reaccreditation, based on the Visiting Committee’s recommendation, is now set to be affirmed by the Commission on Colleges for another ten years.
Personally and professionally, I can’t say enough of how proud I am of all our people for this achievement at such a high level. Thanks to all who were in some way involved in this process and helped with the visit. Everyone worked so hard and, beyond that, displayed so much talent and just basic devotion to the college and each other. Many more were involved in the process, but key leaders in this effort were members of our Leadership Team: Dean Rodney Bone; Dean Chad Gorham; Olivia Dodd; Dean Jeff Hawes; Dean Kerry Wright; Associate Dean Barbara Kilgore; and Joan Reeves) and our QEP Committee (Dr. Scott Byrum; Kelly DeAngelis; Emily Bailey; Rebecca Cloud, Olivia Dodd, Dean Chad Gorham, Associate Dean Barbara Kilgore; Bryon Miller; Jody Ragsdale; Joan Reeves; and Juliah Sanford). Visiting Committee lodging, meal accommodations, and logistics were arranged by NACC Event Planner Chasley Brown. Olivia Dodd did an outstanding job serving as our SACSCOC Accreditation Liaison. Thanks to all for this landmark work!"
