In recognition of Heart Health Month (February) the Northeast Alabama Community College nursing faculty hosted and prepared a “Love Your Heart” luncheon for all NACC faculty and staff. The event was held on February 16 in the Health Education Building lobby.
“The purpose of the event was two-fold,” stated Jane Hopson, Nursing Program Director. “We wanted to show our appreciation for the faculty and staff, and also to educate them about signs and symptoms of heart attacks, particularly in women.”
Nursing instructor Lauren Cain initiated the idea for the event. The nursing faculty agreed to hold this type of event to show appreciation to faculty and staff for all they do in support of the nursing program. “Since February is Heart Month, we thought that would be a great time to have it,” continued Hopson. “Nursing instructor Donna Bruce supplied the videos about taking care of your heart and symptoms of a heart attack. Nursing students wanted to assist, so they were assigned to provide blood pressure screenings for those attending. Seventy people attended. It was the first time we have done something of this nature and we plan to make it an annual event.”
