The Northeast Alabama Community College Mu Alpha Theta math honor society, Sigma Kappa Delta English honor society, and Student Government Association have teamed up to sponsor a 5K run/walk around the campus perimeter and walking trail on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. Those interested in participating can register online at www.racesonline.com. Race day entries will also be accepted. Proceeds from this event will fund scholarships for NACC students.

At a recent meeting, Mu Alpha Theta guest speaker Samantha Scott stressed perseverance to new inductees. Ms. Scott is a consultant engineer with FM Global in Auburn, AL. She graduated from Plainview High School and Auburn University with a degree in chemical engineering. Ms. Scott is an avid volunteer with 100+ Women Strong at Auburn University to recruit, retain, and reward female engineers. In her presentation to NACC students and parents, Ms. Scott provided possible career paths an engineer might take, along with some practical advice on surviving and completing an engineering degree.
The 2016-17 NACC Mu Alpha Theta officers are: President – Michael Warner; Co Vice-Presidents – Savannah Anne Ulmer, Danielle Jordi; Secretary – Kristen Shelton; Treasurer – Andrea Melchiorre; Parliamentarian – Logan Sears; and Historian – Brittany Bell. These officers conducted the fall induction ceremony and recognized 38 new members: Alex T. Mu Alpha Theta is the national mathematics honor society for community college and high school students throughout the United States. The purpose of Mu Alpha Theta is to promote scholarship in, and enjoyment and understanding of, mathematics. To be eligible for membership in Mu Alpha Theta a student must have completed MTH112 PreCalculus Algebra or a higher level mathematics course; have a 3.0 GPA (out of a possible 4.0) in all two-year college mathematics courses at or above the MTH112 level; and be pursuing a higher level mathematics course, that is one above the MTH112 level.
