Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC) is thrilled to announce the remarkable achievements of our esports teams, collectively known as Mustang Gaming, as they conclude their second year of competition. Under the skilled guidance of Head Coach Bryon Miller and Coach Noah Allen, with support from Student Esports Assistant Conner Crane, the team has made impressive strides during the Spring 2024 season.

The Mustang Gaming program is rapidly growing with its expanding reach across the student body and introduction of new games. Recently, our team traveled to Columbus, Ohio, to compete in Rainbow Six Siege against university teams. This competition marked a significant milestone, showcasing our team's dedication and skill. Additionally, the team received jersey sponsorships and now proudly sports official esports jerseys. Our Discord server has also seen a substantial increase, with membership nearing 100 students.

This spring, four of our teams competed in three major game titles: Super Smash Brothers Ultimate (SSBU), Valorant, and Rainbow Six Siege. All teams qualified for the National Junior College Athletics Association Esports (NJCAAE) Open Series national tournament.

Notably, two teams finished in the top eight nationally:

  • Rainbow Six Siege: Led by Team Captain Josbert Acosta
  • Valorant: Led by Team Captain Alex Mays

“We certainly have an outstanding team, and we are very proud of them,” stated NACC President Dr. David Campbell.  “Bryon Miller and Noah Allen do such a great job as the team sponsors. I do want to acknowledge our late Educational Technology Director too - Mrs.  Patricia Falk. As she did on so many things at Northeast, Mrs. Falk was the leading force in getting the team, created, organized, and going. Thank you, Patricia.”

Mustang Gaming’s Josiah Boozer finished third nationally in the NJCAAE Open Series. Reflecting on his season, Josiah shared, "I learned to stop spamming moves that are unsafe on block. Playing off instinct is also important." His dedication and growth exemplify the spirit of Mustang Gaming.

Coach Miller expressed his gratitude and excitement for the future, stating, "Our program continues to grow and see success. We are very grateful for all the support we receive from our President, Dr. David Campbell, Athletic Director, Barbara Kilgore, our IT staff, and all the students that participate and cheer us on. We are also grateful to have sponsors FTC and Synergetics who enabled us to provide jerseys to our student athletes for free."

Mustang Gaming boasts an exciting and promising future. They are appreciative of the support they have received thus far and encourage all to stay tuned for what’s next!
