Through a grant with Innovate Alabama, Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC) and Builders + Backers have announced a strategic partnership to drive innovation and entrepreneurship across Northeast Alabama. This collaboration will immediately launch applications for the Spring 2025 Idea Accelerator program, providing residents in DeKalb and Jackson Counties with the opportunity to turn their innovative ideas into thriving businesses.
The partnership establishes NACC's Entrepreneurial Center as an official Builders + Backers affiliate, adding proven venture studio programming to the center's existing entrepreneurial support services. This collaboration aligns with NACC's mission to empower aspiring entrepreneurs and nurture innovation, creating a more dynamic regional economy.
"This partnership with Builders + Backers represents a significant step forward in our mission to provide the resources, education, and mentorship needed to turn ideas into successful ventures," said Jennifer McCurdy, Director of NACC's Entrepreneurial Center. "By combining our deep local networks and mentorship with Builders + Backers' proven methodology and resources, we're creating unprecedented opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs from all backgrounds to build and scale successful ventures."
Selected participants in the Spring 2025 Idea Accelerator will receive up to $5,000 in non-dilutive funding and dedicated assistance from both NACC's Entrepreneurial Center and Builders + Backers' venture studio teams. The program is designed to engage broader community networks and untapped populations, ensuring that entrepreneurial opportunities are accessible to all residents of Northeast Alabama.
"NACC's commitment to fostering innovation and inclusive entrepreneurship makes them an ideal partner," said Donna Harris, CEO of Builders + Backers. "Together, we're creating a powerful platform that will not only launch new businesses but also ignite a culture of innovation across Northeast Alabama. This partnership exemplifies our belief that great ideas can come from anywhere, and with the right support, anyone can become a successful builder."
The Idea Accelerator program combines a rapid Builder Bootcamp with hands-on experiment execution, enabling participants to rapidly test and validate their business concepts with the help of a dedicated Venture Studio team. Applications are now open
through March 11, 2025, and the program will begin in April 2025. Interested residents can learn more and apply at bit.ly/spring25-apply.
NACC President Dr. David Campbell expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Thanks to a grant from Innovate Alabama, Mrs. McCurdy has given our E-Center a strong foundation, enabling us to now offer programs through Builders + Backers."
"Our primary mission at the E-Center is to support individuals in building and growing successful businesses—benefiting both them and the community by generating jobs and economic growth. The possibilities are endless!"
This initiative complements NACC's existing entrepreneurial programming, including collaborative workspace, mentorship programs, and educational workshops offered through the Entrepreneurial Center.
