Northeast Alabama Community College’s (NACC) Music Department invites you to Live from Roscoe’s: Music of the Harlem Renaissance on Thursday, February 20th at 6:30 p.m. in the NACC Student Center.
NACC’s Chorus, Encore!, and Jazz Band will come together for the night to perform Harlem Renaissance tunes. The concert will feature Duke Ellington’s “Cotton Club Stomp”, Cab Calloway’s “Minnie the Moocher”, and much more!
Admission is free, and the event is open to the public. NACC Instructor of Vocal Ensembles Sara Markham says, “We’re styling the performance as a speakeasy, with the performers, and we hope audience, in period style clothing.”
The Harlem Renaissance was a period of great African-American cultural achievement during the 1920’s that centered in Harlem, New York. NACC’s Music Dept. wishes to honor those achievements at this performance.
About 35 students make up NACC’s three ensembles: Chorus, Encore!, and Jazz Band. Several students perform in multiple ensembles. Contact Sara Markham, Instructor of Vocal Ensembles, at email@example.com for more information about this concert or NACC’s Music Department.
