To celebrate Read Across America: Dr. Seuss’ Birthday, Northeast Alabama Community College Child Development students visited Pre-K classrooms on March 1, 2, and 3. They read to the children and did literacy activities in Pre-K’s, Childcare centers, and public schools all over Jackson and DeKalb counties.
NACC students dressed up as their favorite Dr. Seuss character and performed for the students. “We had a blast reading to the kids this week,” said Dana Garner, Child Development Instructor/Advisor. “Our NACC CHD students dressed as Cats in the Hat, Sneeches, Thing 1’s, Hortons, and all sorts of Dr. Seuss characters.”
The Child Development Program at NACC prepares students for a rewarding career in child care. The need for child care is ever increasing and qualified personnel are needed to fill the many positions available. Northeast is authorized to offer both a short-term certificate and the Associate in Applied Science degree in Child Development, which helps graduates meet credentialing requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act. Additionally, parts of the curriculum may apply toward the BS degree in Early Childhood Education at four-year universities and colleges.
Registration for summer semester is fast approaching. Registration for all students begins by appointment on Wednesday, March 30. Regular registration is May 27. Classes begin on May 31.
