Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC) celebrated Constitution Day on September 17 to commemorate the 231st anniversary of the forming and signing of the US Constitution. The college also sponsored a schoolwide voter registration campaign as a part of this celebration.
Conducted by NACC’S Student Government Association, with the help of SPLC on Campus and DeKalb and Jackson County’s registrar offices, this campaign provided students the opportunity to conveniently register to vote in the student center between classes.
“I was trying to think of something that would bring attention to the US Constitution that would benefit the students,” said Lacee Kirk, SGA President and coordinator of the event. “The event was truly a success. We had several students come by the table, and even some said this day really helped because they had always wanted to register to vote but didn’t know how.” A total of 22 students became eligible to vote thanks to this year’s registration campaign.
