NACC Celebrates Allied Health Building Open House and Expands Healthcare Program Offerings

April 24, 2026

Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC) recently welcomed community members, students, and local partners to an open house celebration for its newly updated Allied Health Building. The event, held on April 9, offered guests the opportunity to tour the enhanced facility, meet instructors, and learn more about the college’s expanding healthcare programs, including the new Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) and Diagnostic Medical Sonography programs. A group of adults stand in a brightly lit hallway, talking in small clusters near a set of glass exit doors. Most are dressed in business or business-casual attire, wearing name badges, and appear to be engaged in conversation before or after an event. A floral arrangement sits on a table near the back wall, and daylight is visible through the doors.

The open house highlighted NACC’s continued commitment to strengthening the region’s healthcare workforce. Attendees explored modernized classrooms and labs designed to support hands‑on training for high‑demand medical careers. Faculty members Amanda Jones, Instructor for the Medical Laboratory Technology program, and Amanda Wright, Instructor for Diagnostic Medical Sonography, were on hand to share insights about the curriculum and career pathways. Both instructors bring extensive experience and professional certification to their roles.

NACC President Dr. David Campbell emphasized the importance of expanding healthcare education opportunities for the region. “We have for sometime really wanted to see the college grow in regard to healthcare workforce,” stated NACC President Dr. David Campbell. “Our largest challenge for fulfilling this mission is the need for more space on campus. With that challenge accomplished, we would like to add even more programs, such as dental hygiene assisting, respiratory therapy, and physical therapy assistant. These are badly needed careers to serve our people in a rural area like ours.”

As part of this strategic growth, former Nursing Director Myrna Williamson was recently appointed Dean of Healthcare, a role created to support the college’s expanding healthcare offerings and ensure continued excellence in program development.

The open house served not only as a celebration of the Allied Health Building’s enhancements but also as a milestone in NACC’s broader mission to meet the region’s healthcare needs through accessible, high‑quality education.
