Mr. Jeremy Campbell, native of Langston and award-winning journalist, recently donated his first Emmy® Award to Northeast Alabama Community College. Campbell made the announcement at the annual NACC Foundation holiday gala, where he was honored as the 2018 alumnus of the year. Campbell attended NACC and acted in several theater productions.
As an investigative reporter, the topics that interest him the most are those that impact people’s lives, such as human trafficking, Hurricane Katrina, drug abuse, and veteran benefits. In addition, he has covered nationwide stories such as the Casey Anthony trial, the Trayvon Martin shooting, the Obama Inaugural in Washington DC and the Trump campaign trail in 2016. His stories have appeared on news outlets such as FOX News Channel, CNN, MSNBC, The Weather Channel, and CBS News.
In addition to winning eighteen EMMY® Awards, Campbell is a National Murrow Award recipient for innovation. He has also won four Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, a Gracie, a Cronkite Award for political reporting and back to back Service to America Awards from the National Association of Broadcasters. He has been named “Best Reporter” by the Associated Press in Georgia, Florida and Alabama and is a three-time Atlanta Press Club Awards honoree.
“It is our hope that having this EMMY® Award on display and seeing the accomplishments of a former student will inspire our current students,” said Dr. Julia Everett, Head Librarian/Division Director. “We want our students to know there are no limits as to what they can accomplish.”
Campbell’s first EMMY® Award will be on display in the Cecil B. Word Learning Resources Center during normal hours of operation (Mon.-Thurs. 7:30 AM-8:00 PM and Fri. 7:30 AM-3:00 PM).
A celebration of the donation has been planned for Thursday, June 6 at 10:00 AM in the Cecil B. Word Learning Resources Center. The public is invited.
