Margot Shaw, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of FLOWER magazine, was the 2018 Sand Mountain Soiree guest speaker recently. This is the third year that Northeast Alabama Community College has hosted the brunch and learn for the community. The event was another sellout with 160 tickets sold.
Soiree guests enjoyed a brunch of Eggs Benedict Quiche, Gorgonzola, Roasted Pear and Walnut Crepes, Ambrosia Salad with Marshmallow Crème and a Carrot and Courgette Muffin with Dill Butter.
Shaw told her personal story of how FLOWER magazine got its start. Each guest took a copy of the magazine home with them. After her presentation of entertaining stories over the past 10 years, she greeted guests and signed her book, Not So Prim Rose.
Shaw is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. She studied Art History and Sociology at Hollins College in Virginia and Interior Design at the University of Texas.
“Each year, we have been blessed with speakers who really connect to our guests, and Mrs. Shaw definitely did that,” said Chasley Bellomy, Event Planner at Northeast. “There were tears in the group as she told her personal story and laughs as she told of specific moments while working on the magazine. It was definitely a special treat for us to have the morning with her, and we hope in the future she will someday come back to join us. This is an event that we do for the community, and it has always been strongly supported. We are very thankful for that, and thankful we are able to continue to offer this for our community and campus.”
