Northeast Alabama Community College’s 53rd graduation ceremony will take place at 7 PM, Thursday, May 16, 2019, at the Northeast Alabama AgriBusiness Center on Highway 75 in Rainsville.
"Graduation is the highlight of the year for us," stated Dr. David Campbell, NACC President. "Completing their programs is what our students have worked toward, and it is so rewarding for our faculty and staff to see students reach this level of achievement.”
The keynote speaker this year is Majority Leader of the Alabama House of Representatives Nathaniel Ledbetter.
Nathaniel Ledbetter was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives for District 24 in November of 2014. In March of 2017, Nathaniel became the first freshman ever to be elected House Majority Leader in the State of Alabama.
“Representative Ledbetter has made quite an impact in the Alabama Legislature,” Dr. Campbell states. “He is a key leader in the Legislature and state. He always represents the interests of Northeast and the Alabama Community College System. He has been instrumental in helping us start some important career tech programs. We are proud of his record and his support of Northeast!”
Nathaniel is a graduate of Plainview High School. He was elected to the Rainsville City Council at the age of 23. Later on, he ran unopposed and was elected to serve as Mayor of Rainsville, which he did until 2002. He said among his proudest accomplishments were improving the quality of life for area citizens through projects like the Tom Bevill Enrichment Center, the Rainsville Public Library, and the Field of Dreams. He stated that creating jobs for District 24 was his top priority for running for the House of Representatives. Nathaniel has held several key charity-related positions while serving his community. He is retired from the Sand Mountain Electric Cooperative.
Nathaniel and his wife, Teresa, reside in Rainsville and attend Broadway Baptist Church. They have two sons and four grandchildren with whom they enjoy spending time.
Not only will graduates receive their diplomas on this special evening, but the college’s outstanding students and faculty member will be recognized as well. The All Alabama Academic Team Members and the President’s Cup Recipient will be recognized, as well as the recipient of the Dr. Charles M. Pendley Founders’ Chair Award. The NACC Chorus and Concert Band will perform.
This graduation ceremony is open to the public. All families and friends of Northeast graduates are invited and encouraged to attend this event. “Our college personnel put much work and effort into the graduation ceremony, and it is really a spectacular event to see,” added President Campbell. “We encourage everyone to attend.”
