Courses have officially begun for students completing the Google IT Support Professional Certificate at Northeast Alabama Community College. NACC is administering the certificate through the Coursera online learning platform, where students will access self-paced courses with interactive assessments and videos.
“Northeast and Google have followed through with their partnership to provide area residents and students the opportunity to obtain an IT Professional Support Certificate. The certificate potentially can be used to open the door for employment at Google and for thousands of other computer specialist jobs in the United States. In Alabama, the college certificate is offered only at NACC and at no other college or research university. We are also thankful to Google Operations Manager Brenda Standridge for helping us get this program off the ground,” said Northeast President Dr. David Campbell.
There has been an overwhelming response since NACC announced the offering of this certificate. Nearly 50 students pre-registered, and 38 students are currently enrolled in the course. The course has enticed students of all ages and backgrounds. Interim Dean of Instruction Chad Gorham explained the course demographic further, “We have had college graduates, high school students, individuals with jobs, and even individuals without jobs or underemployed contact us about the certificate. Some see this as a way of finding a new job, while others see an opportunity to advance their career. Others have indicated that they feel the training offered could help them to be more efficient with their own technology and home computer system.”
Utilizing the Coursera platform, students will earn the Google IT Support Certificate by completing five courses at their own pace. Students are also able to earn course credit through NACC while completing the certificate. NACC instructors are also available to provide additional assistance to students completing the certificate.
“We are excited to have this partnership with Google and Coursera and to be able to provide our community with access to this program. The course content is great and even provides interactive opportunities for students to practice what they are learning. We look forward to seeing each of them complete the full certificate program, “said NACC Career and Transfer Advisor Bryon Miller. Miller is NACC’s instructor for this course.
NACC is one of only 100 community colleges in the nation currently offering the Google IT Support Certificate. Completing the course and earning the certificate will give students an added credential when applying for jobs in information technology support.
