Students in the Engineering Technology (ENT) program at Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC) recently attained 100 percent pass rate on their certification exams. This is the third year in a row that 100 percent of ENT graduates have passed this exam.
The Engineering Technology program at NACC prepares graduates for many exciting careers, such as research and development, product design, manufacturing, quality, and production processes. Engineering Technicians work in research and development, build or set up equipment, prepare and conduct experiments, collect data, calculate or record results, conduct preliminary analysis, and help engineers or scientists in other ways, such as making prototype versions of newly designed equipment. They also assist in design work, often using solid modeling tools.
Deni Adkins, who teaches in the program, is a professional mechanical engineer with extensive industry experience. The program emphasizes a strong foundation of engineering fundamentals coupled with opportunities to apply these principles in real-world projects.
“Mrs. Adkins and her students have set themselves apart with this achievement,” said Dr. Mike Kennamer, Director of Workforce Development at NACC. “Her experience and expertise in engineering is evident by the success of her graduates.”
According to Adkins, NACC students scored an average of 9 points above the national average on the NOCTI Engineering Technology exam. This 202-question, three-hour exam measures technical skills at the occupational level and includes items which gauge factual and theoretical knowledge in the following subject areas: Overview of Engineering, Design Process/Problem Solving, Manufacturing, Assembly and Fabrication, Materials, Safety, Engineering Systems, and Communication and Teamwork.
