Administrators from Northeast Alabama Community College attended the monthly board meeting for the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) on Wednesday, November 8. During the meeting, the board unanimously approved the third and final phase of the NACC women’s softball stadium project.
This phase will include the team’s locker room and training facilities. A sun-shield roof to provide shade for the stands was also approved. P&C Construction has been awarded the contract for this project, joining Sports Turf which won the initial bid. The architects on for the project are McKee and Associates of Montgomery.
"We greatly appreciate the Board and System Office's support of women's softball and our stadium," stated NACC President Dr. David Campbell. "These are exciting times for Northeast!"
Completion of the stadium is scheduled for August 2024. The total cost of the state-of-the-art stadium is estimated to be 8 and one half to 9 million. Campbell also stated that a grant from House Speaker Representative Nathaniel Ledbetter contributed substantially to funding this project, helping to make it possible.
Several Northeast administrators were present at this week’s meeting, including Jeff Hawes, Dean of Student Services; Chad Gorham, Dean of Instruction; Dr. David Campbell, NACC President; Barbara Kilgore, NACC Athletic Director and Associate Dean of Instructor; Joe Guthrie, NACC Women’s Softball Coach; and Courtney Guthrie, wife of Coach Guthrie and former All-American women’s softball pitcher from Northwestern University.
Llevelyn Rhone of Greensboro is the Chair of the Board and Dus Rogers serves as the Vice Chair. Mr. Rogers made the motion for this project to be approved during the board meeting. Mr. Jimmy Baker serves as Chancellor of the Alabama Community College System and approves all requests before they are presented to the board.
