Mission Statement

As a unit of the Cecil B. Word Learning Resources Center, the Northeast Alabama Community College Archives and Special Collections serves as a repository of historical materials documenting the northeastern portion of the state of Alabama and its immediate surrounding area. Its mission is to identify, collect, preserve, and provide access to materials related to the history of the local area, with particular focus on the Sand Mountain region. These materials include items such as historic manuscripts, photographs, artifacts, and secondary sources. Additionally, the NACC Archives and Special Collections will house select College archives; assist patrons in their local history research; and coordinate with community organizations, history repositories, and research agencies to further the understanding of the region.

Archives and Special Collections Collection Policy

The Archives and Special Collections unit of the Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC) Cecil B. Word Learning Resources Center collects archival and secondary materials that document the history and culture of Northeast Alabama and the immediate surrounding area. These materials are made available to researchers and the general public in the Archives and Special Collections room to further the understanding of the region. These materials include items ranging from the prehistoric to modern eras with special emphasis on the shared culture of the region and its individual communities, Sand Mountain, and the history of Northeast Alabama Community College.

The collection houses material in a variety of formats. The NACC Archives and Special Collections reserves the right to accept or decline all donations based on condition, potential significance to the collection and with consideration to space limitations.

The NACC Archives and Special Collections collects published material of interest to genealogical researchers but generally does not collect individual family research unless it has been previously published or is of particular interest to the community as a whole.

Gifts to the NACC Archives and Special Collections will be evaluated in accordance with the NACC Learning Resources Center/Library Gifts Policy, with the knowledge that any transaction must pass the title of the materials to NACC.

A Gift Agreement Form must be completed by the donor prior to the donation in order for NACC Archives staff to evaluate the potential donation.

All Archives and Special Collections material will be regularly evaluated in accordance with the NACC Learning Resources Center/Library Discarding and Weeding Policy.
