2016 NACC Graduate
AAS in Salon & Spa Management – Therapeutic Massage
Business Owner, Rainsville, Alabama
Kayla Wilborn has always loved helping people but didn’t quite fill fulfilled in her work since high school. She sometimes felt stuck in the environment and the routine. “I wanted to go back to school to better myself; I wanted a good job—one that I would enjoy—and be able to help my husband with the responsibilities of raising a family,” she said.
The Therapeutic Massage program at NACC helped Kayla to fulfill her desire of helping people. Today, she owns Blissfully Serene Massage and Natural Skin Care, which is located in The Blonde Bombshell in Rainsville. “I love it when a client comes to me saying they can’t move and by the time their session is over their range of motion is back.”
Kayla came to Northeast because it was close to home and convenient for her to attend. She especially loved that NACC’s Salon Institute is located in a shopping center, providing real world experience working with clients. “The program taught me the technical skills and protocols needed for professional treatments in massage, manipulations, and techniques for a client-centered professional practice,” she said. “My instructors taught me the importance of professionalism, ethics and standards, and helped me to build my self-confidence, learn to set realistic goals, and work with the public.”
Kayla’s journey did not come without challenges, though. She worked while attending and faced the financial challenges that many college students endure. “The college most definitely helped when I didn’t think it would be possible.”
While many graduates indicate that they miss the students with whom they attended school, Kayla notes that she works with other NACC graduates every day. Blonde Bombshell Hair Studio and Spa is a full service salon with eight outstanding hair stylists—six of whom are NACC graduates—so the Salon Institute is certainly well represented in this premier salon.
“If I had to rate my experience at NACC, I would give it a 10, absolutely! I would recommend the Therapeutic Massage program to anyone!”
