Northeast Alabama Community College, the Northeast Alabama Tech Prep Consortium, and local industry partners will sponsor the following Career Exploration Camps and Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) activities on the NACC campus this summer.

For Grades 6-8 - Robotics Day Camp

Students in grades 6-8 can attend a week-long Robotics Day Camp the week of June 9-13. During this camp, students will learn to build, program, and operate simple robots. Participants will show off what they've learned during the week at a completion celebration held the afternoon of June 13. A field trip to a local industry will allow students to see industrial robots in action. The cost of this camp is $59. Camp hours are 9 am - 4 pm, Monday - Friday.

For Grades 9-12 - Manufacturing Day Camp

Rising 9th - 12th graders can attend a Manufacturing Day Camp the week of June 9-13 in which students will be introduced to the world of modern manufacturing through hands-on projects, and site visits to manufacturing facilities. In addition, students will be introduced to entrepreneurial concepts and skills. Students will walk through the manufacturing process during the week and will go home at the end of the week with a great project that they design and produce. The cost is $59. Camp hours are 9 am - 4 pm, Monday - Friday. This camp is sponsored by GH Metal Solutions, Fabricators and Manufacturers' Association (FMA) and the Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs Foundation.

For Grades 9-11 - Adventures in Health Care Careers

Students in grades 9-11 will enjoy a week of exploring various careers in healthcare.  Guest speakers and visits to health care facilities will expose participants to a variety of careers in healthcare, nursing and medicine.

For Grades 9-12 - Public Safety Day Camp

High school students will learn about careers in police, fire and emergency medical services during this exciting week of first aid training, fire equipment demonstrations and crime scene processing. There will be great field trips and each participant will learn valuable life and safety skills.

For Grades 8-12 - Careers in Salon & Spa Management

Participants will get a taste of the salon and spa industry through hands-on activities in therapeutic massage, cosmetology, hairstyling, esthetics and nail care. In addition, participants will learn to dress for success and how to make decisions regarding appropriate dress and makeup for various business and social situations. This camp will be held at the college's Salon Institute in Scottsboro, Alabama.

For Grades 10-12 - Dual Enrollment Robotics Class

For the third year, NACC will offer a dual enrollment class to help prepare eligible students for the BEST Robotics competition in the fall. Students will study engineering, design, and manufacture of specific robot components while meeting Monday nights during the summer. Students may obtain both college and high school elective credit for successful completion of this course. The cost of this course is $420; scholarships may be available for those who qualify. The class will meet at the DeKalb County Technology Center in Rainsville, and will be taught by Gary Hulslander.
