March was a very
busy month in the Technology Learning Center. To bring about
more student awareness of the many services we offer a $25.00
iTunes gift card was donated to the center to be given away. To
be eligible for the drawing students had to log study hours in
the center during the month of March. We are proud to say even
with spring break in March we offered assistance to 382 students
who logged hours of student time in the center.
The Blackboard
9.1 Cohort class continues to meet online every Monday. This
class has proved to be very beneficial in preparing for our fall
upgrade of our production server to Blackboard 9.1. As a part of
the course all those participating have been offered the
Blackboard Student Orientation course free of charge. This
course will be delivered through Blackboard and will give
students the tools needed to succeed as an online learner in
Blackboard.
In preparation of
faculty training we have upgraded the Bb 8.0 test server to Bb
9.1 and will be offering instructor training for the summer
semester.
Student workshops
were taught on Sending Emails and Attachments. We also offered a
series of workshops for Gildan employees who are losing their
jobs on April 8th. These are Basic Computer Literacy workshops
ititled Introduction to Computers; The Internet and the World
Wide Web; Buying a PC; Sending Emails and Attachments; and
Computer, Safety, Ethics, and Scams. These workshops were
offered for one week during March, and will be offered during
April and May. The former employees may attend any or all of the
sessions and may attend more than once for remediation. During
March six people from Gildan took advantage of these free
workshops.
We continue to
serve as a testing center and proctor location not only for
Northeast students but other college campuses as well.
