Graduation at Northeast Alabama Community College

APPLYING FOR GRADUATION

 

The deadline to apply for graduation will be early in the semester. It will be announced by the website, bulletin boards, and announcements to instructors/advisors.

Turn in the following to the Office of the Dean of Instruction before the deadline:

1. a copy of your degree sheet showing completed credits, available from your advisor and signed by your advisor
2. a copy of your unofficial transcript, available from your advisor
3. payment: $20 for the diploma with keepsake cover
    $28 for cap and gown (for Spring ceremony)*
  If you pay your fees by check, please make your check payable to Northeast Alabama Community College. If you are a WIA or TRA student, please write “WIA” or “TRA” at the top of the application, and WIA or TRA will pay for one diploma, cap and gown.
4. a completed "Application for Degree" form, available from your advisor or one of these locations:
    Office of the Dean of Instruction, 121 Pendley
Office of Workforce/Technical Division, 148 Pendley
Office of Extended Day, 111 Pendley
Admissions Office, 109 Student Center
Textbooks, Etc., 100 Annex

Students may receive degrees at the end of Fall, Spring, or Summer.

*All students who graduate during the year can be honored at the annual Commencement ceremony at the end of Spring Semester. To participate in the ceremony, complete the part of the "Application for Degree" form concerning cap and gown purchase ($28).


   
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

DEGREES
A student shall be awarded the Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, Associate in Applied Science and Associate in Occupational Technologies degrees upon satisfactory completion of the requirements of the specific program as specified by the college granting the degree and the State Board of Education.

A student must:

  1. Satisfactorily complete a minimum of 60 semester hours of college credit in an approved program of study, including prescribed general education courses.

  2. Earn a 2.0 cumulative grade point average in all courses attempted at the college. The calculation of the grade point average for graduation shall not include grades earned in institutional credit courses. A course may be counted only once for purposes of meeting graduation requirements.

  3. Complete at least 25 percent of semester credit hours at the college granting the degree.

  4. Meet all requirements for graduation within a calendar year from the last semester/term of attendance.

  5. Coursework transferred or accepted for credit toward an undergraduate degree must represent collegiate coursework relevant to the degree, with course content and level of instruction resulting in student competencies at least equivalent to those of students enrolled in the institution’s own undergraduate degree programs. In assessing and documenting equivalent learning and qualified faculty, an institution may use recognized guides which aid in the evaluation for credit. Such guides include those published by the American Council on Education, The American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, and the National Association of Foreign Student Affairs.

  6. Comply with formal procedures for graduation in accordance with institutional policy at the receiving institution.

  7. Fulfill all financial obligations to the college.

  8. The chief academic officer shall approve the formal award when the student meets all requirements for graduation satisfactorily.
