Northeast Alabama Community College Theatrerenowned Department and the English and Fine Arts Division would like to invite you to meet Pamela Parker, who is the playwright of the play Second Samuel, currently being produced at NACC. This is a first for NACC to host the author of one of the plays produced by our Theatre Department! Ms. Parker will be speaking on Thursday, July 12, at 10:00 am in the Tom Bevill Lyceum.

Pamela Parker was born in a small mill town in Georgia and raised by grandparents who told stories about life in the rural South in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Parker began writing plays in the late 1980s; the first three were one-act plays and all have been produced in New York City. Second Samuel was the first full-length play. Dan Hulbert of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution named it the Best Original Play '91-'92. In 1995, Parker won the Southern Playwrights Competition at the Center for Southern Studies at Jacksonville State University in Alabama with A Higher Place in Heaven. In 1997, Pat Conroy invited Parker to the Southern Voices conference, Hoover, Alabama, to read from The Second Samueltonian—a collection of short stories. In 2010, Ms. Parker became an international playwright when Second Samuel was produced in Perth, Australia. Her plays have been produced in Alabama more times than in all other states and other locations combined.

Northeast's production of Second Samuel opens July 13. For information on tickets to the play contact the theatre office at ext. 2218, or purchase them online from the theatre’s webpage on at About the Show.
