Characteristics of Virus and Spy ware
1. Extremely slow processing
2. Inability to open programs
3. Internet homepage gets changed
4. Constant redirection to unscrupulous websites
5. Phishing/scamming emails sent to your inbox
Defragmenting Your PC (to be done at least once a month,
preferably set it to defrag. as you leave for the day since it
often takes hours to run)
1. Left click on Start
2. Choose Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and Disk
Defragmenter
3. Choose Analyze (it will tell you if you have anything to
defrag. or not)
4. If you do, choose Defragment
Disk Cleanup (to be done at least once a month, preferably
set it to defrag. as you leave for the day since it often takes
hours to run)
1. Left click on Start
2. Choose Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and Disk Cleanup
3. Choose the drive you want to clean (C drive)
4. Let it scan
5. Check all the boxes
6. Click OK Spybot
1. Left click on Start
2. Choose Programs, Spybot: Search and Destroy
3. Search for Updates
4. Check boxes and download all updates
5. Choose Safternetworking #1 (it is fast)
6. Choose Search and Destroy and Check for Problems
7. Infections will appear in red
8. If you have infections, mark them (with a checkmark) and
choose Fix Selected Problems
Sleep Mode
1. Right click on the desktop
2. Left click on Properties
3. Choose Display Properties screen
4. Choose Screen saver
5. Left click on Power (energy saver)
6. Choose Turn monitor off in ____ minutes (usually 10 minutes
is a good time)
7. NEVER choose turn hard disks off
