3.8.3. The institution provides a sufficient number of qualified staff—with appropriate education or experiences in library and/or other learning/information resources—to accomplish the mission of the institution.

NARRATIVE/JUSTIFICATION FOR JUDGMENT OF COMPLIANCE
Northeast Alabama Community College demonstrates compliance in the institution’s provision of a sufficient number of qualified staff in learning/information resources. The Learning Resources Center (LRC) is staffed by two full-time professional librarians, one part-time librarian, one part-time cataloger, and one full-time secretary. In addition, the LRC is supported by the Director of Educational Technology Support and his assistant (See Table 1.).

The director of the learning resources center holds an M.A. in English and an MLIS. Before her appointment at Northeast, she worked for three years as an English teacher and for three and one-half years as a library media specialist. She has been employed as the Director of the Northeast Alabama Community College Learning Resources Center since January 2003. She is a member of the Alabama Education Association, National Education Association, Alabama Two-Year College Library Association, and Alabama Instructional Media Association (AIMA). In 2002, the director was the recipient of the LAMP (Library and Media Personnel) Award for Excellence. In 2002, she served as president of Madison County Library Association and as vice-president in 2001.
The other full-time librarian holds an MLIS. She served as the library assistant in Northeast Alabama Community College’s Learning Resources Center for six years and prior to that as the secretary for six and one-half years. She is a member of the American Library Association (ALA) and the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL).
The part-time librarian earned an M.S. in education with a media specialist endorsement and A.A. certification in English and Library Science. She is a member of the Alabama Education Association, National Education Association, and AIMA. She worked as a school library media specialist in a K-12 school system for 26 years and prior to that taught English at a private school for four years. She has been employed at Northeast since 1990.
The part-time cataloger holds an MLS. She has over 20 years experience in various academic and special libraries. She has been employed at Northeast since 1997.
The full-time secretary earned an A.A.S. and has over 20 years experience working as a secretarial/office assistant.
The library also employs 3 student workers, each of whom works 15 hours per week. Their duties include shelving books, working the circulation desk, processing the mail, and assisting students.
The Office of Technology Support oversees all educational technology on campus. The Director of the Office of Technology Support earned an M.B.A. and MS/MIS and has over 14 years of experience working in the field of technology. His assistant holds an A.A.S. and has over 2 years of experience.
According to the library’s 2003 annual survey, Annual Library Student Use, 95 percent of responding students who had requested assistance from a library faculty or staff member rated the service they received as Helpful or Very helpful. In corresponding surveys, 100 percent of administrators, faculty, and staff respondents and 100 percent of community respondents who requested assistance rated the service received as either Helpful or Very helpful.
