NARRATIVE/JUSTIFICATION FOR JUDGMENT OF COMPLIANCE
Northeast Alabama Community College demonstrates compliance in defining and publishing general education and major program requirements for all its programs. The published requirements conform to commonly accepted standards and practices for undergraduate programs. The college has no graduate or post-baccalaureate professional degree programs.
General education and major program requirements for all programs are defined and published in the college Catalog annually, with any updates that may have taken effect. The Catalog constitutes the official announcement of programs, requirements, and regulations of the college. The Catalog is available both in print and online.
The general education and major program requirements for the A.A. and A.S. programs are also accessible through the online articulation resource known as STARS (for Statewide Transfer and Articulation Reporting System). This articulation agreement was developed by the Alabama Articulation and General Studies Committee (AGSC), a panel representing Alabama’s public universities and two-year colleges. STARS was implemented in the Fall of 1998 after months of work on the part of the AGSC. Both students and advisors can readily access STARS and ascertain the general education courses and freshman or sophomore level major program requirements offered at Northeast that will transfer into specific programs of senior institutions in Alabama.
The program requirements conform to commonly accepted standards and practices for undergraduate programs. The college complies with State Board Policy 712.01, which sets guidelines for A.A., A.S., and A.A.S. degrees as well as certificate programs with reference to transfer or employment intent, range of credit hours, and distribution of courses and areas of study. The A.A. and A.S. programs, while complying with State Board Policy 712.01, also adhere to the standards defined by the AGSC through STARS. The conformity of STARS to commonly accepted standards and practices for undergraduate programs is attested by the composition of the AGSC, which is representative of all state public institutions of higher education.
Program requirements for the Nursing and Emergency Medical Services programs, in addition to complying with State Board Policy 712.01, conform respectively to standards of the following accrediting agencies: National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, EMS-Alabama Department of Public Health, and Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) of the Commission on the Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
