SGA Plans Exciting Events for Spring Fling

The Student Government Association (SGA) at Northeast Alabama Community College has been busy making plans for this year’s Spring Fling events to be held during the week of April 18-22. This year’s activities promise something for everyone. The theme for the week will be “Game Time at NACC.” Activities for the week include the NACC version of Jeopardy!, Minute to Win It, Dating Game, and Family Feud. The week concludes with Northeast Idol and a pizza party. “Even the faculty, administration, and staff get involved with these events,” said Laura Kerby, President of the SGA.

“Student activities are so important here at NACC,” stated Kerby. “Students need to get involved in as many activities as they can outside the classroom, to meet new people, and to get to know each other better.”

Kerby enjoys being an officer and helping with all the student activities going on at Northeast. “As a freshman representative last year, it made me want to be even more involved this year,” she added. “I have been involved in every student activity and have tried to make sure that students enjoy them.”

The SGA plans exciting and fun events all through the year. A Fall Fling is held in October. A Teacher Appreciation Week is held at the end of the spring semester. A Welcome Back event will be in August. “The Welcome Back Event in the fall is one of our biggest events,” added Kerby. “We just finished up with the annual blood drive. It was very successful. Northeast usually has between 20-30 donors, but this year had approximately 50 donors to help with the dire need for blood.” The SGA also collects and delivers items for Christmas Charities.

The SGA is the voice of students at Northeast. Its purpose is to promote the general welfare of students, to cultivate friendship and cooperation among the students and faculty, and to encourage participating in individual and group responsibilities in a democratic atmosphere. All Northeast students are members of this organization and are encouraged to take an active part in its functions.
