Move It/Lose It Challenge 5K Walk/Run: A Huge Success

On Saturday, May 21, 2011, the Northeast Alabama Community College Sigma Kappa Delta chapter co-sponsored a 5K Run/Walk to raise money for the DeKalb County and Jackson County Red Cross, to help with costs related to the devastating storms which ravaged north Alabama on April 27. Thanks to the overwhelming support of various groups in DeKalb and Jackson Counties, especially the Weight Watcher members, we raised $5,445 for immediate disaster assistance.

Registered for the race were 189 runners/walkers. Of the 145 who started the race, 132 finished the race, many of whom were completing their first 5K. Weight Watcher members in Jackson and DeKalb Counties trained for six weeks for over 16,000 miles to participate in this event. The overall winner was Tyler Baine with a time of 22:55, coming in second was Andolyn Parrish with a time of 24:15, and third was Jore Rio with a time of 24:54.
