NACC Yearbook Staff Members Win Awards

Three members of the Backroads yearbook staff – Danielle Brewer, Laura Brewer, and Betsy Griffin – recently received the great honor of being recognized by the Columbia School Press Association in New York, NY. The awards were in the fields of photography, design, and editing.

Danielle Brewer was honored with an Achievement of Merit award for Feature Photo. Brewer, who lives in Henagar, is an avid photographer who is also passionate about horse rescue and riding. In fact, she is the inaugural secretary of Whispering Willow Equine Rescue. Brewer is also the photo editor, and has contributed her considerable talents as a writer/designer for the Backroads NACC yearbook.

Betsy Griffin won a Third Place Certificate award for “people-spread with mug photos multi-page presentation, color” for yearbooks. Griffin is a vital member of the Backroads staff. She is currently the managing editor of the yearbook and has been on staff since 2007. Beyond her extensive knowledge and experience with yearbook design and management, Griffin is also working on a dual degree in elementary education and business.

Laura Brewer was also honored with an Achievement of Merit award for Feature Presentation. Brewer is currently attending Jacksonville State University and working on a degree in accounting. She actively contributed both writing and photography to the 2007-2008 Backroads.

Backroads is produced annually by students enrolled in Mass Communications classes. Students who attend NACC for two semesters receive Backroads free of charge.
