3R Expo and Alabama Career Center Dedication on August 7,
2009
Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC) will
be hosting a major event Friday, August 7, 2009, that can be of
great benefit to NACC students and staff as well as those in the
community. This event is the Retool, and Retrain for
Reemployment (3R) Expo and it is sponsored by the Governor’s
Office of Workforce Development. The 3R program will be held in
the Tom Bevill Lyceum from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Included among the
speakers for the 3R Expo are Dr. Mary Jane Caylor, Alabama State
Board of Education member and pro tem, District 8; Ms. Joan
Davis, Interim Chancellor of the Alabama Community College
System; Dr. Matthew Hughes, Director, Governor’s Office of
Workforce Development; and Mr. Tom Surtees, Director, Alabama
Department of Industrial Relations.
The 3-R program is of particular value for
students or their families or friends who are recently
unemployed as the result of plant closings or layoffs. Topics to
be covered at the 3R event include information on
employment/unemployment services, the Workforce Investment Act,
adult education, and training programs offered through the
state’s two-year college system, particularly those at NACC.
The 3R program also will be a great professional
development opportunity to NACC staff and personnel in gaining
knowledge to better advise students on important workforce and
career issues.
Following the 3R activities, a grand
opening/ribbon cutting will be held for the Rainsville Career
Center. This Center is now located on the NACC campus in what
was formerly the EMS Building. The grand opening/ribbon cutting
is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the Rainsville Career Center’s
new location on campus. The Rainsville Career Center is a part
of the Alabama Career Center network and is designed to be a
“one-stop” agency for both job seekers and employers. Among the
services provided at the Career Center are career planning,
financial assistance for job training, job referral, educational
training assistance, online job postings for employers, and
unemployment insurance information. The Rainsville Career
Center also will have staff available to provide personalized
assistance and the Alabama Career Center’s Mobile Unit will be
available to the public for information services as well.
The 3R and Rainsville Career Center grand
opening/ribbon cutting event is free and open to NACC faculty,
staff, students, and the public. Please plan to attend this
very worthwhile event. For additional information, contact the
NACC President’s Office at 226-6001 or 638-4418 ext 243 or Ms.
