Randall White Honored by State
Association
Randall White, Director of the Northeast Alabama Adult Education
Program at Northeast Alabama Community College, recently
received the State Adult Education Hall of Fame Award. The award
is presented by the Alabama Adult Education Directors’
Association, and White is the first in the state to be selected
for the honor. White’s award will be placed on permanent display
at the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education in
Montgomery.
“This is a very worthy and deserving recognition of Mr. White,”
stated NACC President Dr. David Campbell. “His career of
dedicated service to our area has resulted in thousands of
people being able to better their lives through adult education.
Not only does the work of adult education help people in our
area individually, but it also enables this area to have a more
trained workforce, which can be very important in the economic
development of an area. Mr. White has really made his impact on
improving the quality of life for all in our area.”
Through adult education programs, students may work toward the
completion of their General Education Development (GED), which
many employers require for employment. The Northeast Alabama
Adult Education Program is operated and managed through NACC and
serves people in DeKalb, Jackson, and Marshall counties. In 2009
the NACC Adult Education program maintained twenty-three
instructional sites in its three counties and served 2,019
students. NACC works with Snead State Community College in
particular to coordinate adult education opportunities and to
provide GED testing centers. The NACC program is one of the
largest in enrollment in the state and has consistently received
high evaluations for quality. The program has received “A”
rankings in all categories in Postsecondary’s evaluation and
accountability process. The program provides the largest English
as a Second Language (ESL) training each year. Additionally,
White developed the first Workplace Literacy Class in Alabama.
White
and his wife Bonita reside in Boaz. He is a member and deacon of
the First Baptist Church in Boaz. Among his professional duties
is that he served as the first director of the Adult Education
Directors’ Association. He is on the Governor’s Workforce
Development Committee, the Tri-State Workforce Development
Council, and the Alabama Developmental Education Advisory Board.
He serves as the chair of the Alabama Legislative Committee and
has been the president of the Alabama Association of Public
Continuing Adult Education. In addition, White has been
recognized as the Outstanding Administrator at Northeast in the
state-wide Chancellor’s Award program.
