Fall Semester Students Welcomed at NACC
When the fall semester began last week at
Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC), the
Student
Government Association (SGA), sponsored by Joan Reeves,
Director of Student Activities, welcomed NACC’s student body by
“Rolling Out the Red Carpet.” Students emerged into the world of
glitz, glamour, and stardom, otherwise known as Hollywood. SGA
President Matthew Hubbard, Vice President John Stubblefield,
Secretary Danielle Hawes, Treasurer Jessica Freeman, and
Historian Kerry Adkins, were successful in transforming the East
end of the Student Center into a miniature version of "Tinsel
Town." The officers collected movie posters and assorted props
from various video rental stores and movie theaters.
According to Hubbard, "The SGA worked very
hard on making this one of the most memorable ‘Welcome Back’
events. In the end, all the hard work was well worth it. I think
it was an awesome way to let the students know just how special
they are at Northeast.”
As the students wandered into this Hollywood creation, they
strolled down the infamous red carpet which was lined with stars
to portray Hollywood Boulevard's Walk of Fame. The paparazzi was
there, represented by cardboard cut-outs. The red-carpet led the
newly declared celebrities to the welcoming table, which was set
with FREE souvenirs, popcorn, assorted candies, drinks, and
applications for Student Government Representative. A movie
projector was set up with various movies running to give the
room that full Hollywood effect.
The SGA at NACC was successful in
achieving what it set out to do as evidenced by a statement from
one of 2500+ students making up the Fall Semester 2007 student
body at Northeast. According to Wesley Ikard, "Surrounded by
posters of movies from the decade, the SGA made us all feel like
rockstars walking down the red-carpet."
