The University of Alabama Reports that
NACC Students Do Well
A recently released report shows that students from Northeast
Alabama Community College do very well academically after
transferring to the University of Alabama. Indeed, NACC students
achieved higher Grade Point Averages (GPAs) in junior and senior
level courses than the average for transfers from all other
Alabama public two-year colleges and higher than the average for
students who started at the University of Alabama.
The study tracked 110 former NACC students
who transferred to UA in 2005-2006 and 2006-2007. The NACC
students achieved an average GPA of 3.00 in 2006-2007, compared
to an average GPA of 2.88 of transfers from all other Alabama
public two-year colleges and an average GPA of 2.51 of students
who started at UA. For 2005-2006 composite comparisons were 2.89
(NACC students), 2.88 (transfers from all other public two-year
colleges), and 2.53 (students who began at UA). The study was
conducted by the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment
at the University of Alabama.
“We are very pleased with the results of
the report,” Dr. David Campbell, NACC President. “These results
show that our students are well prepared when they transfer to
one of the South’s leading comprehensive universities – the
University of Alabama.”
The study was conducted in order to
provide productive interaction between UA admissions personnel
and other academic officials and Northeast. Among other findings
of the report were that students who transferred the most hours
to UA from NACC maintained the highest GPA of other NACC
transfers to the University.
“Northeast has an articulation agreement
with the University of Alabama,” stated Dr. Joe Burke, NACC Vice
President/Dean of Instruction. “We have the same agreement with
all other public colleges and universities in Alabama. Under
this agreement, core courses taken at Northeast and at other
colleges in the Alabama Community College System are guaranteed to
transfer to all two and four-year colleges and universities in
Alabama.”
