NACC Students Attend Regional Theatre Convention

Six students from the Northeast Alabama Community College Theatre department attended the Alabama Conference of Theatre State Screening Auditions in Montgomery, Alabama. The screening auditions are held on the state level, and then students are passed on to regional level auditions at the Southeastern Theatre Conference’s 59th annual convention in Chattanooga, Tennessee in March 2008. Three of the six NACC students auditioning were passed on to the regional convention in March. This is an enormous honor for these three students as only 40% of the 152 auditionees were passed on to the regional level. Our students competed against college seniors from large four year universities. With fifty percent of our students being passed on compared to much smaller percentages at some of those larger universities, our students proved their ability. At the SETC conference in March, these three students will audition for over 100 companies who are seeking performers for both summer and year-round roles.

The largest and most active regional theatre organization in the country, the SETC includes the following member states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia. The convention boasts hundreds of workshops, several keynote speakers, auditions, commercial & college exhibits, and several theatre festivals. Top ranked theatre professionals will lead workshops ranging from fun improvisational workshops to panel discussions with other theatre professors regarding the changing face of college theatre. In addition to the wide array of workshops, participants will be able to meet with colleges all over the U.S. that offer graduate and undergraduate degrees in theatre as well as theatre companies offering acting and technical jobs.

Northeast Alabama Community College continues to produce quality plays at an affordable price. The students and faculty who attended the auditions would like to thank several people for their contributions to this trip, Dr. David Campbell and the faculty and staff of Northeast Alabama Community College and the NACC Theatre Guild. Without funding and support from both of these sources, this trip would not have been a reality.
