NACC Students Record Successful
Transfer Rates at UAH
A report prepared by officials at the University of Alabama in
Huntsville (UAH) has found that students who transfer from
Northeast Alabama Community College do very well academically at
UAH. The report, compiled by the Office of Institutional
Research at UAH, tracked fifty-eight NACC students who took
courses at UAH from the summer of 2006 through the spring of
2007. The study found that the NACC students at UAH compiled a
3.12 grade point average, the same average as the native
students who started at UAH.
“We are very pleased with the findings of
this report,” stated NACC President Dr. David Campbell. “UAH is
an excellent university with high academic standards and many of
our students transfer there. We are pleased to know from this
study that our students are well-prepared for their courses at
UAH.”
NACC has an articulation agreement with
UAH and other public colleges in Alabama through which core
courses within designated programs of study taken at Northeast
are guaranteed to transfer to the four-year institution. “This
articulation agreement makes the transfer process from Northeast
to an Alabama public four-year college a smooth process,” said
Tonie Niblett, Dean of Student Services at NACC.
NACC is a comprehensive community college
that offers academic transfer programs, two-year career and
technical programs, training for business and industry, and
adult education. NACC also serves as a site for an Athens
University Center, where students when they graduate from
Northeast may continue there work to complete their four-year
degree on the NACC campus.
“Northeast is a great choice for starting
an educational career,” Campbell said. “Students from our area
can stay at home awhile longer, pay a lower tuition than they
would at a four-year school, receive personal attention from our
staff and instructors, attend smaller classes, make new friends,
and take part in the many activities and organizations that we
have at the college. Studies like the one UAH released show that
the students’ time at Northeast is very well spent
academically.”
