Student Blogs Featured on Web Site
Northeast Alabama Community College has a
new feature on its Web site--students are now sharing blogs of
their college activities and experiences. “This gives potential
students an insider’s view of student life at NACC,” said Susan
Barron, Director of High School Relations and Recruiting at
NACC.
Featured freshman students are: Jackie
Smith, Zach Draskovic, and Laura Glover. These young people are
members of an elite group of Northeast students called
Presidential Hosts. They were excited to have the chance to talk
about their personal experiences as college students and the
day-to-day happenings in their everyday lives.
“To get Northeast’s message out we want to
use the same communication methods which potential students use
in their everyday lives – and this is a popular means,” said
Barron. “When approached about doing blogs, our students were
eager to participate. The way we gauge how many people are
reading their blogs is to measure the number of ‘hits’ each
student has received-- Zach had 275 visits to his site in just
one day.”
Blogging ("blog" is derived from "web
log") has evolved from online diaries and is one of the fastest
growing Internet activities made popular by such Web sites as
MySpace.com. Blogs are used to share the author’s own thoughts,
opinions, and experiences. To view these student blogs, or for
more information, go to the college’s home page at
www.nacc.edu.
